Jesus Through The Eyes of a Fisherman

Mark 1:29-45

Mark 1:29-39 NLT
After Jesus left the synagogue with James and John, they went to Simon and
Andrew’s home. 30 Now Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever.
They told Jesus about her right away. 31 So he went to her bedside, took her by
the hand, and helped her sit up. Then the fever left her, and she prepared a meal
for them.
32 That evening after sunset, many sick and demon-possessed people were
brought to Jesus. 33 The whole town gathered at the door to watch. 34 So Jesus
healed many people who were sick with various diseases, and he cast out many
demons. But because the demons knew who he was, he did not allow them to
speak.
35 Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated
place to pray. 36 Later Simon and the others went out to find him. 37 When they
found him, they said, “Everyone is looking for you.”
38 But Jesus replied, “We must go on to other towns as well, and I will preach to
them, too. That is why I came.” 39 So he traveled throughout the region of
Galilee, preaching in the synagogues and casting out demons.
1. Jesus, The Great Physician, had tremendous compassion for the sick.
Mark 1:40 NLT
A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed. “If
you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean,” he said.
Leviticus 13:45-46 (NLT)
“Those who suffer from a serious skin disease must tear their clothing and leave
their hair uncombed. They must cover their mouth and call out, ‘Unclean!
Unclean!’ 46 As long as the serious disease lasts, they will be ceremonially
unclean. They must live in isolation in their place outside the camp.
Mark 1:41-44 NLT
Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he
said. “Be healed!” 42 Instantly the leprosy disappeared, and the man was healed.
43 Then Jesus sent him on his way with a stern warning: 44 “Don’t tell anyone
about this. Instead, go to the priest and let him examine you. Take along the
offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy.
This will be a public testimony that you have been cleansed.”
Leviticus 14:14 (NLT)

The priest will then take some of the blood of the guilt offering and apply it to the
lobe of the right ear, the thumb of the right hand, and the big toe of the right foot
of the person being purified.
-Right Ear: symbolizes the dedication to hear, listen, and obey God's Word.
-Right Thumb: symbolizes the purification of one's deeds, meaning all work and
service are done for God's purposes.
-Right Toe: Symbolizes a person's daily life path, representing a commitment to
walk in righteousness and holiness.
Mark 1:45 NLT
But the man went and spread the word, proclaiming to everyone what had
happened. As a result, large crowds soon surrounded Jesus, and he couldn’t
publicly enter a town anywhere. He had to stay out in the secluded places, but
people from everywhere kept coming to him.
2. Like the leper, when Jesus touches us spiritually, we are healed, cleansed,
forgiven and brought back to life, a brand new creation.
Hebrews 9:13-14 (NLT)
Under the old system, the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer
could cleanse people’s bodies from ceremonial impurity. 14 Just think how much
more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we
can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered
himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.
Ephesians 2:12-13 (NLT)
In those days you were living apart from Christ. You were excluded from
citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant
promises God had made to them. You lived in this world without God and without
hope. 13 But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far
away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of
Christ.
Psalms 103:2-5 (NLT)
Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things he does for
me. 3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. 4 He redeems me from
death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. 5 He fills my life with good
things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!
